Organised with the support of the East African Trade Union Confederation (EATUC), the meeting was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Employment (MFPTE), the National Institute of Social Security (INSS), EATUC and Solidarity Center.
The main aim of the meeting was to review the progress made so far in developing policy and legal frameworks for the portability of social security and health insurance in Burundi.
Burundi is one of the countries that many people leave for work in other countries. This is why the matter of social security and health insurance needs to be reviewed and considered, to ensure that the rights these workers have acquired are preserved, to avoid an unprecedented deterioration in the living and working conditions of workers in the region, especially those in Burundi.
The participants considered the texts promoted by the stakeholders on the issue of social protection with a view to ensuring the portability of social security and health insurance in the region.
