ITUC and ETUC warmly welcomed the new EC Communication “Social Protection in European Union Development Cooperation” and its evolved understanding of social protection, with references to the relevant ILO recommendations. Trade unions appreciate also the recognition of the role of social partners in the elaboration and implementation of social protections schemes. Concerns remain however around the role of Corporate Social Responsibility in this domain.
