Tunisia: ITUC Calls on Affiliates to Mobilise against Repression of Demonstrations
The International Trade Union Confederation has called on its affiliated organisations around the globe to mobilise against the violent repression of demonstrators by the Tunisian security forces. According to trade union sources, over fifty people are thought to have died in clashes between the security forces and protestors, and many more have been injured.

The ITUC has called on the Tunisian authorities to cease the violent repression against demonstrators demanding action on employment, and initiate serious dialogue with the national trade union centre UGTT to tackle the growing social crisis facing the country.

Belarus: ITUC Denounces Brutality Against Demonstrators and Arrests of Trade Union and Human Rights Advocates
The ITUC has denounced the violent attacks by the police and the special security forces on demonstrators protesting over disputed presidential elections on Sunday evening in Minsk. Of the 20,000 people who took to the streets, more than 600 were arrested and detained, including trade unionists, human rights advocates and journalists. Mikhail Kovalkov, chairperson of the Free Trade Union of Belarus, a member organisation of the ITUC-affiliated BKDP, has been sentenced to 10 days in prison. Three other BKDP activists – Aleksey Kovtun, Vladimir Sergeev and Aleksandr Tysevich - were also detained, while some others received administrative penalties.
International Migrants Day – the ITUC calls on governments to ratify the United Nations Convention
To mark International Migrants Day, the ITUC is condemning the violations of migrant workers’ rights taking place all over the world. Migrants, most of whom work in the most precarious, least protected sectors, are feeling the full force of the current economic crisis and deterioration of job markets. The ITUC is calling on the governments of destination countries to ratify the United Nations Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families.
