Social dialogue: a participatory approach to achieving the sustainable development goals

SOLiD, a project by the EU and ITUC, fosters social dialogue and sustainable development in the Mediterranean. Phase one saw success in Tunisia, Morocco, and Jordan, leading to a charter. Phase two expanded to Algeria, Lebanon, and Palestine to influence national policies through dialogue and development.

ITUC : New Structure to strengthen democratic and independent trade unionism in the Arab countries

At the request of 17 national trade union centres from the Arab region (in Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Libya, Jordan, Mauritania, Morocco, Oman, Palestine Tunisia and Yemen), the ITUC General Council meeting in Brussels (9-11 October) has endorsed the process of creating a new structure for the Arab countries.

On the Road to an Arab Region Trade Union Organisation

Meeting in Amman, Jordan, on 30-31 May, the Arab national trade union organisations affiliated to or associated with the ITUC have decided to launch the process of creating a trade union organisation for the Arab region, in the framework of the ITUC.

A new Arab Democratic Trade Union Forum: For freedom, social justice and dignity

Fifteen Arab trade union organizations from 10 countries founded today in Amman, Jordan, a new Forum to promote the fundamental values of democratic and independent trade unionism and to increase regional union solidarity and unity. The founding union organizations are from Bahrain (GFTU); Egypt (EFITU); Iraq (GFIW); Kuwait (KTUF); Jordan (GFJTU); Libya ( FLWF*); Mauritania (CLTM, CNTM, UTM); Morocco (CDT, CGTM, UMT); Palestine (PGFTU); Tunisia (UGTT); and Yemen (GFYWTU).

Middle East: Governments Step Up Repression As Economic Crisis Hits Jobs and Incomes

As the economic situation in several Middle Eastern countries has deteriorated over the past three months, an alarming increase in repression of independent trade union activity has taken place, as governments react with force to demands for better protection of incomes and for job security.
