Brussels, 27 December 2007 (ITUC OnLine): The ITUC has condemned the latest terrorist atrocity in Pakistan, which took the lives of opposition leader Benazir Bhutto and at least 20 others, with many more injured. Several hundred people have lost their lives in such attacks in Pakistan this year.

"Our thoughts are with the families of all those who have lost their lives, and with the many who have been injured", said ITUC General Secretary Guy Ryder. "This most recent outrage is yet another attempt to stop any progress towards a return to democracy in Pakistan. Those who resort to terrorist acts must not be allowed to succeed in their aim of thwarting democracy and the rule of law and we trust that the people responsible for this atrocity and other such acts will be found and brought to justice."
