ITUC Backs Gilbert Houngbo in ILO Election

The ITUC has decided to support former Prime Minister of Togo, Gilbert Houngbo, in the upcoming election of the new ILO Director General. Houngbo has also previously served as Deputy Director General of the ILO.

ITUC General Secretary Sharan Burrow said "We are pleased to support Gilbert Houngbo in his candidacy for this extremely important position, with his strong track record of support for the ILO’s mandate, standards and tripartite structure and processes.”

The ILO Governing Body will elect the new Director General later this month, with the term of office due to start on 1 October.
