Luc Triangle confirmed as ITUC General Secretary

Luc Triangle has been confirmed as ITUC General Secretary at the 6th Extraordinary World Congress held virtually, 12 October, and chaired by ITUC President Akiko Gono.

As the sole candidate to have been nominated for the position, he was elected by acclamation. He has served as ITUC Acting General Secretary since May 2023.

“I am honoured and pleased to have received the confidence of the ITUC’s global membership and look forward to leading the organisation in the coming years.

“Never in history has it been more important to have a strong, unified, representative and global organisation for the world’s working people.

“There are armed conflicts in every region, democracy and rights are under threat, economic inequality is leaving hundreds of millions of people with barely enough to get by and interconnected challenges, including climate change, demand concerted action with people placed at the heart of the solutions.

“Delivering the New Social Contract to achieve a just, equitable and sustainable world will continue to be the core mission of the ITUC,” said Luc Triangle.

Changes to the ITUC Constitution to reinforce election procedures were also adopted. The next meeting of the ITUC General Council will take place in Brussels, 12-14 December 2023.
