Africa Region: Building a strong Trade union movement to actively engage in the development agenda of Africa
Following the last regional development network meeting in June in Lome, where strategies have been set for African unions for the post 2015 agenda, a planning workshop was held in Accra on September 23 and 24.
The main objective of the workshop was to develop an overall action plan to ensure the effective involvement and participation of ITUC-Africa’s affiliates at national, sub regional and regional level on the global development agenda.

Towards a Post 2015 Sustainable Development Framework
During the 68th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, the governments of South Africa and Ireland convened a Special Event to follow up efforts made towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals. However, the event title only tells half of the story— the MDG Special Event was as much and probably more about what comes after 2015 when the MDGs are set to expire, than it was about the current set of goals.

September 2013 - Roundtable on Trade unions and Labour Issues in Africa
On 25 September 2013, the African Studies Centre (ASC) of the University of Leiden in the Netherlands hosted an international roundtable on Trade Unions and Labour Issues in Africa. This event was co-organised with the Institute of Work and Society (HIVA) at the University of Leuven In Belgium, and brought together 30 participants from different countries.

Mobilisation against poverty and for decent work
We are faced with two problems: poverty and the non-universalisation of decent work. Both issues are inter-related and both are a consequence of human behaviour that can and must be corrected. This will not be an easy task and powerful lobbies and inertia must be overcome in order to resolve both problems.

TRIALOG Study Visit for Croatian NGOs - Learning about European Development Cooperation Policies and Actors for the Youngest EU Member State
In September 2013, TRIALOG invited a group of Croatian NGO representatives to Brussels for a three-day study visit in order to learn more about European development policies and the role of civil society organisations (CSOs) and different EU institutions in the development policy-making.

DRC: the trade union platform “Union Fait la Force” celebrated the World Day for Decent Work
In the DRC, this Monday 7th of October the “Union Fait la Force” (UFF) the trade union platform which brings together the following trade union confederations: the Union Nationale des Travailleurs du Congo (UNTC), the Confédération Démocratique du Travail (CDT) and the Conseil des Syndicats du Secteur Public et Privé (COOSSEP), celebrated the World Day for Decent Work (WDDW) in the Notre Dame de FATIMA hall in Kinshasa (GOMBE), the capital of the DR of Congo.

The DEOK Trade Union implemented a seminar on “Free Movement and migration in the EU: the persistent economic crisis – problems for workers and new challenges for trade unions”
The Seminar took place in Paris/France on the 19th – 20th September 2013 with the participation of Cyprus, France, Portugal, Italy and Romania. The two days seminar was a unique opportunity for social dialogue and deep consideration about current national situations, experiences, problems and challenges for the trade union movement at national and European level concerning the free movement and migration of EU workers.

DRC: The UNTC and organising women in the informal economy
With support from the CGSLB (Centrale Générale des Syndicats Libéraux de Belgique) and the WBI (La Regional Wallonne de Bruxelles), 50 women trade union leaders in the informal economy and members of the UNTC took part in a training course organised by the women’s trade union centre in Mbuji-Mayi. The women were divided into two groups of 25 with the first training course on the 16 – 17 September and the second group on 18 – 19 September.
