Africa Region: Building a strong Trade union movement to actively engage in the development agenda of Africa

Following the last regional development network meeting in June in Lome, where strategies have been set for African unions for the post 2015 agenda, a planning workshop was held in Accra on September 23 and 24.

The main objective of the workshop was to develop an overall action plan to ensure the effective involvement and participation of ITUC-Africa’s affiliates at national, sub regional and regional level on the global development agenda.
The pilot group, made by sixteen trade union activists and leaders from twelve countries, after several deliberations over the two days, delivered an action plan for the next three year period (2014 – 2016).
The action plan sets the Decent Work Agenda and its pillars (employment, rights at work, social protection, and social dialogue) as a priority and identifies five expected results together with strategies and activities to be realized within the time frame.
It was adopted by the ITUC-Africa General Council at the end of its 10th meeting on 26th September 2013, and will serve as a main point of reference for the Network work for the coming three years.
