As the end of the year approaches, we will be focusing on implementing the outcomes of the 33rd ITUC General Council meeting, which took place in Brussels, 12-14 December.
To fulfil the mandate set out in the statement from the ITUC Congress in 2022, there will be a strong focus on developing, in cooperation with our affiliates and regional organisations, a global trade union campaign for democracy. This will be the highlight of our work in the coming year and beyond, along with our continuing work for a New Social Contract.
In January, the ITUC will join the global union federations and TUAC in attending the World Economic Forum’s Annual Meeting. As in the past, this will be an important occasion to represent the interests of working people as we meet heads of government, international organisations and business leaders.
We will also be actively engaging with the UN Commission on Social Development, 5-14 February. Here, we will put forward our proposals on social policy as the Commission focuses on the topic as a means of achieving the UN’s 2030 Agenda and tackling poverty.
I would like to take this opportunity to express my thanks and appreciation to all our member organisations, our partners in the Council of Global Unions and trade unionists everywhere for their dedication to the mission of the labour movement throughout the past year. I look forward to our continued cooperation and solidarity in 2024.
