Dear friend,

The past few months have been important for moving workers’ rights forward in global development discussions. The ITUC has played a leading role in this work through its Trade Union Development Network (TUDCN).

After our delegation’s efforts to push for our demands at the High-Level Political Forum (HLPF), we advocated for workers’ priorities at the Summit of the Future (SOTF). ITUC General Secretary Luc Triangle engaged with key stakeholders and contributed to the inclusion of important worker demands in the final declaration of the SOTF. We will follow up to ensure governments stick to their commitments on the SDGs, workers’ rights, and defending democracy.

The TUDCN has also been working with the European Union to strengthen trade unions’ engagement with EU delegations at the national level and to include workers’ views in the EU’s Global Gateway initiative. In this context, ITUC Africa Vice-President Rose Omamo shared workers’ views at the meeting of the Global Gateway Civil Society and Local Authorities Advisory Platform, following the launch of a report on the Global Gateway by Oxfam, Eurodad, and Counterbalance. Meanwhile, in Jakarta, KSBSI President Elly Rosita Silaban had a productive meeting with the EU delegation about the role of trade unions in ensuring a just energy transition.
