Summary and Initial Commentary on “Trade and Employment: Challenges for Policy Research”

The ILO-WTO paper “Trade and Employment”, a literature review, looks at the
theory and empirical results concerning how trade policies impact on the level and
structure of employment, wages and wage differentials, incomes, and labour market institutions and policies. It further considers how labour market institutions and policies influence the outcomes of trade policies in terms of output, employment and distribution of income.

The paper is divided into five sections:

4. The Role of Policy Makers
5. Conclusions
