TU-DAC Forum 2020: ODA’s role for recovery and resilience

Trade unions and the OECD Development Assistance Committee (DAC) held the sixth edition of the Trade Union - DAC Forum on 30 November 2020. The event was launched with a high-level panel on the role of ODA in ensuring an SDG-driven recovery and resilience.

The debate was moderated by TUAC ’s General Secretary, Pierre Habbar, and the discussants were ITUC General Secretary Sharan Burrow, OECD DAC Chair Susanna Moorehead, and the Director of the OECD Development Co-operation Directorate, Jorge Moreira da Silva.

The debate was complemented by a series of interventions from several DAC delegates and trade union representatives on their contribution to the SDGs.

Among other points, concern was raised regarding the underfunding of development cooperation and the fact that most countries are “off-track” in achieving the SDGs.

Wrapping up the discussion, Pierre Habbard stressed that the Covid-19 recovery must have social dialogue at its centre, include sustainable job creation, and take into both account social protection and the protection of the environment.
