UN organisations’ assessment of Covid-19 is central to unions’ development work

Through their analysis of the impact of the Covid-19 on the labour market, the economy, the environment and society in general, the International Labour Organisation (ILO), the Bureau for Workers’ Activities (ACTRAV) and the Regional Commissions of the United Nations contribute important information to the work of trade unions in the field of international cooperation and development.

The Trade Union Development Cooperation Network (TUDCN) and its members work is closely connected to the activities of the United Nations’ regional economic and social commissions, the ILO and ACTRAV. The work of the commissions and the ILO and ACTRAV contribute to strengthening trade unions’ capacity to act as key development actors.

As the Covid-19 outbreak and its labour, social, economic and environmental impact has been unfolding, the work of these UN bodies has been fundamental for unions to enhance their understanding of the extent of the crisis.
