Conducted by 26 organisations in 14 countries*, the counry reports included in the publication assess progress in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at national level in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The world was already off-track to deliver on the 2030 Agenda before the pandemic arrived and laid bare the flaws of the current economic model and its structural incapacity to care for workers and their families, and the environment. The virus has uncovered the disastrous social, sanitary and economic state of the world after decades of market fundamentalism, and it has severely hampered global, national and local efforts to carry out and realise the SDGs.
In light of this situation, this assessment provides first-hand information on how this situation is reflected in the assessed countries, starting from governments’ responses to the Covid-19 pandemic. “A Trade Union Take on the SDGs” consists in the compilation and finding analysis of the SDGs country reports produced by trade union organisations in 14 countries in 2020. This is the result of an in-depth engagement at national level, highlighting how governments implement transparency and make use of consultation and social dialogue to involve trade unions in the drafting and implementation of SDGs national plans. Furthermore, the publication reflects how countries are doing to reach specific key SDG targets in the context of existing structural social and economic challenges.
