ATUDN General Meeting 2019

The African Trade Union Development Network (ATUDN) held its annual General Meeting on 28-29 March 2019 in Lusaka, Zambia.

Over twenty participants from across Africa participated in the ATUDN General Meeting. The Congress of Zambian Trade Unions (CZTU) hosted this year’s edition. The meeting was organised back-to-back with a seminar on private sector’s accountability.

The meeting focused on three thematics:

  • the impact on trade unions’ work on the SDGs of the increasing use of blended finance in development cooperation,
  • trade unions’ preparations ahead of the 2019 edition of the High-level Political Forum on sustainable development that will take place in July and September, and
  • the role of social dialogue as an avenue for social partners to engage their governments in the implementation of the SDGs.

The programme of the ATUDN from 26-29 March 2019 has been very empowering, exposing us to private sector’s role on development, blended finance. We exchanged on best practices and engaged the processes of the world bank and our role in holding them accountable.
