Italy ratified C189! An important victory for trade unions and domestic workers in Italy.

On December 18 2012, at the Conference of the Italian trade unions CGIL, CISL and UIL the Labour Minister Elsa Fornero announced that the process of ratification will be finished very soon. A few hours after the Conference, the foreign ministry confirmed that both the Italian President Giorgio Napolitano and the Foreign Affairs Minister Giulio Terzi had signed. Italy is the first country in the EU, and 7th in the world to ratify the Convention - thanks to the efforts of the Italian trade unions and domestic workers, but also with the cooperation of the Ministries of Labour and Foreign Affairs, as well political forces. The Italian Foreign Ministry will now write to the ILO in Geneva to formalize the ratification of C189.
