Repression of Trade Unions in Northern Cyprus
The ITUC and the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) have issued a joint statement strongly protesting against the arrest of 24 trade unionists on August 3 in Northern Cyprus while they were demonstrating against the austerity policy and privatisation projects of the local administration. They are calling on the authorities to end the policy of anti-union harassment and to return to negotiations and social dialogue.
