ITUC Mourns the Passing of Russian Trade Unionist Evgeny Sidorov

The ITUC mourns the tragic and unexpected passing today of Russian trade unionist Evgeny Sidorov, Secretary for International Relations of the ITUC-affiliated Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Russia (FNPR) and a member of the ITUC General Council and of the PERC Executive Committee.

Born in 1945 in Talinn, Evgeny Sidorov served as a trade union official for 38 years, and was appointed FNPR International Secretary in 1999. An accomplished linguist, he also served as a member of the Governing Body of the International Labour Organisation. In 2009, he was awarded the Russian state Order of Friendship.

“Evgeny Sidorov played an extremely important role as an international advocate for workers’ rights, and in building and maintaining strong relations between the FNPR and trade union centres across the world. We deeply regret his untimely loss, and express our sincere condolences to his family, colleagues and friends,” said ITUC General Secretary Guy Ryder.
