ISCOD activity report 2013

As you can see from the report of activities 2013 (in Spanish), ISCOD is continuing its mission to act against poverty in all countries, providing solidarity support for the fight waged by workers’ organisations to end exclusion and defend human rights, often in a context where trade unions are repressed and persecuted.

Over the last year, despite these being difficult times for development cooperation, we have implemented a good number of trade union cooperation projects, managing to maintain the support for the economic and social development of communities in impoverished countries. All this has been possible thanks to the support and commitment of the UGT’s affiliates, which give 0.7% of their affiliation fees to solidarity action with workers from impoverished countries in the South.

We have also continued to represent workers before all kinds of local, regional, national and international institutions, speaking out against inequalities and in favour of development that is inclusive and respectful of the environment and people’s rights. We are strengthened in our belief that trade union cooperation is an effective weapon to defend the values of solidarity and to fight for social cohesion and against the policies in all areas that are generating new poverty throughout the world.

Contrary to the direction being taken with the cuts affecting cooperation policies, solidarity with peoples and territories suffering from exclusion is more important now than ever, as inequalities become wider and more widespread.
