The Ministerial Declaration issued after the conclusion of the HLPF reflected most of the ITUC’s policy proposals, framed within workers’ global call for a New Social Contract with six key demands.
Our delegates seized every opportunity to amplify workers’ voice and confront Government’s Voluntary National Reviews (VNR) armed with findings from their “A Trade Union Focus on the SDGs” reports.
Some highlights of the delegation’s work at the HLPF:
- Alberto Jaramillo confirmed unions’ commitment to Mexico’s development and building a New Social Contract.
- Fanny Sequeira sent not one but two strong messages to Costa Rica’s Government.
- Jordania Ureña spoke about unions contributions to realising the SDGs.
- Mahongora Kavihuha spoke on trade unions’ perspective on SDG partnerships and addressed Namibia’s VNR.
- Maria Nyberg denounced the dismantling of international solidarity in Sweden.
- Rose Omamo discussed advancing the 2030 Agenda, living wages, and Kenya’s VNR.
- Sanjay Kumar Dahal stressed Nepal’s poor performance on Goal 8on decent work and sustainable growth.
- Giulia Massobrio encouraged governments to invest in living wages as a key means to fight poverty and inequality
