CGTM-Mauritania invests in the training and integration of young women hairdressers

Within the framework of the “Support for the sustainable vocational training of young women hairdressers in 4 regions in Mauritania” project developed by the Confédération Générale des Travailleurs de Mauritanie (CGTM) in partnership with the Centrale Générale des Syndicats libéraux de Belgique’s (CGSLB) Mouvement pour la Solidarité Internationale (MSI), three training sessions were organised for young women hairdressers affiliated to the CGTM in the targeted regions.

The first session in this training cycle took place at the training centre for the advancement of women in Nouakchott. A second session took place in Nouadhibou, a third in Akjoujt and the fourth session will be organised in Kaédi at the beginning of March.
The work of these different workshops was supervised by the project manager, Mohamed Fayçal ould Beyrouk and the CGTM regional coordinators in the regions involved.
In the welcome address to the participants, the regional coordinators stressed the importance that the CGTM gives to workers in the informal economy. The importance given translates into various actions which it organises for them to strengthen their capacities by their structuring and organisation leading to an improvement in their living conditions.
The regional coordinators also urged participants to actively and diligently follow the training to ensure they could make the best use of the skills acquired in the training course in the future.
The project manager thanked the CGTM regional coordinators in each session for their assistance and the availability of their members.
He also expressed his sincere thanks to the Belgian partners, the MSI/CGSLB for their constant support of the CGTM in its programme to organise and structure workers in the informal economy in Mauritania within the framework of both the MSI 2009-2011 project and this current sectoral project.
The project manager reminded that the current action has specific objectives, initially to make it possible for young women hairdressers to gain access to hairdressing training modules (technical and product usage) and then to support the vocational integration of these young women hairdressers in their region.
It is important to emphasise that during the training sessions the participants completed practical hairdressing modules delivered by 2 CFPF trainers and a presentation by Mohamed Lehbib ould Cherif promoting self-employment.
It is worth noting that the CGTM already developed a project in partnership with the MSI/CGSLB between 2009 and 2011 to strengthen the capacities of workers in the informal sector which enabled the structuring and organisation of structures in the informal economy affiliated to the CGTM in the 13 regions in Mauritania.
