CFDT/ Institut Belleville and International Labour Office publish guide for migrants

The CFDT and the International Labour Office (ILO) have published an information guide for migrant workers, whether legal or illegal, which came out on 13 September, to help them learn more about their rights.

It is the first time the CFDT and the ILO have collaborated on a project of this kind. Some 4,000 copies of the guide will be distributed via the CFDT and partner associations’ network.

The book, of nearly 90 pages, provides information on rights at work (employment contracts, the minimum wage, holidays, the right to training...) and practical advice (visas, health, language learning, housing...) and lists useful contacts.

"The person who migrants is often in a very fragile situation and can find themselves marginalised, with no-one to turn to and no information about their rights » says the introduction to the guide.

"The International Labour Office (ILO) and the CFDT aim to ensure that the rights of migrant workers are better known and respected and to promote the respect of the principle of equal treatment among migrant workers and national citizens » it adds.
