Canadian unions launch nation-wide lobby with Minister of Labour

The Canadian Labour Congress has launched a nation-wide lobby to convince the Federal Minister of Labour to support initiatives at the ILO to refer a dispute there between Workers and Employers on the right to strike to the International Court of Justice. A copy of its letter to the Federal Minister of Labour is available in French and English at:

The CLC says that attempts by employers at the ILO to undermine this jurisprudence could have far reaching consequences for Supreme Court rulings in Canada and other countries that have relied on it to render positive decisions on the right to strike, collective bargaining and other industrial relation matters. This could undermine a recent Supreme Court ruling affirming the right to strike as essential to collective bargaining in Canada.
