Trade Unions at the follow-up and review the Sustainable Development Goals
On 9-18 July 2018, trade unions were at the UN High Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) 2018. The theme for this year’s annual follow-up and review mechanism of the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) was ‘Transformation towards sustainable and resilient societies’. It took place at the UN headquarters in New York.

ILC 2018: General Discussion on effective development cooperation

The 2018 International Labour Conference (ILC) of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) took place on 28 May - 8 June 2018 in Geneva, Switzerland. This year, a major focus was placed on effective development cooperation in support of the Sustainable Development Goals.
Spotlight on Sustainable Development 2018

This report authored by a global coalition of civil society organisations and trade unions. The main message: “The world is off-track in terms of achieving sustainable development and fundamental policy changes are necessary to unleash the transformative potential of the SDGs.” The chapter on SDG 8 is entitled What policies are needed to achieve Goal 8? The trade union recipe for SDG implementation and is authored by Paola Simonetti, Deputy Director of the ITUC’s Economic and Social Policy Department.
Trade unions at the Financing for Development Forum 2018

The ITUC was at the UN Headquarters for the third ECOSOC follow-up forum on Financing for Development (FfD follow-up forum), which took place on 23-26 April 2018.

TUDCN General Meeting 2018

The General Meeting of the Trade Union Development Cooperation Network (TUDCN) took place in Sao Paulo, Brazil on 16-18 May 2018. Over 40 representatives of trade unions and solidarity support organisations from around the world attended. The annual event allows TUDCN members to take stock of progress and jointly determine the priorities of the network for the coming year.

The TUDCN is looking for an experienced Outreach Communication Officer with a strong interest and motivation in promoting sustainable development based on workers priorities. Application closes on 17 August 2018.

OECD-DAC improves tracking of the Decent Work Agenda

Through its Creditor Reporting System, the Development Assistance Committee determines the reporting provisions for Official Development Assistance (ODA). Following coordinated efforts by the TUDCN and TUAC, these have been adapted to better capture how ODA goes to supporting the Decent Work Agenda in developing countries.
