#Timefor8: the clock is ticking for a New Social Contract         Issue 9 / 2022 -  Sign Up

Dear,

Here we are. The HLPF will start today at 9AM EDT.

The high-level forum will focus on access to education (SDG 4), gender equality (SDG 5), life below water (SDG 14), life on earth (SDG 15), partnerships to achieve the goals (SDG 17). In their capacity of UN Major Group, trade unions have submitted their recommendations to the HLPF on these goals.

This work has been framed on workers’ demands for a New Social Contract and the results of our global monitoring of progress on SDG 8. The submission is entitled A New Social Contract for a Gender-Transformative Agenda”.

The submission will be officially presented during the side-event that the ITUC will hold at the HLPF on 11 July. The event will be streamed on the TUDCN’s Facebook page.

At the HLPF, the ITUC will have a 11-people strong delegation from Argentina, Botswana, Costa Rica, Ireland, Philippines, Senegal, Somalia, South Africa, and Uruguay.

They will ensure that decision-makers and other stakeholders participating in the forum will consider workers’ call for a New Social Contract with SDG 8 at its centre rooted in a gender-transformative agenda.

Workers are development actors in their own right. They stand strong at the forefront of global efforts to rescue the SDGs and overcome the converging crises that are derailing the 2030 Agenda! It’s #timefor8!
