ILO Commission of Inquiry on Zimbabwe Confirms Allegations of Severe Trade Union Rights Violations
A special Commission of Inquiry of the International Labour Organisation has, in its findings being presented to the ILO Governing Body this week, confirmed that Zimbabwe’s government is responsible for serious violations of fundamental rights, in particular concerning freedom to organise trade unions and to collective bargaining, the right to strike, and protection of trade unionists from discrimination.
Croatia: Advances Needed in Labour Rights
A new report by the ITUC on core labour standards in Croatia, published to coincide with the World Trade Organisation’s (WTO) review of their trade policies, has found that labour market flexibility and liberalisation are being encouraged under the pretext of bringing Croatian labour legislation in line with the European Union’s established laws (the “acquis communautaires”).
New ITUC Campaign on Organising Young People
The ITUC is today launching a new campaign to connect global trade union work to the recruitment and organising of young people. The new Youth Campaign uses a range of different tools, including video, social networking, posters and websites, as well as a special campaign guide.
2010 International Day Against Racism and Xenophobia
The ITUC is taking the opportunity of the International Day Against Racism and Xenophobia to recall that racism and xenophobia constitute serious violations of human rights and to urge governments, employers and trade unions around the world to promote respect for diversity and multicultural interaction and to actively combat discrimination based on ethnic backgrounds, nationality or colour of skin and to be extra vigilant in these times of global economic crisis that provide a breeding ground for unfettered extreme expressions of racism and social exclusion and an increased societal tolerance for them.
