ITUC Strengthening its Presence in the Arab Region, to Better Defend Trade Union Rights
Nine Arab trade union organisations affiliated to the ITUC met in Hammamet, Tunisia, from 14 to 16 April, together with six guest union organisations from the region. Open and constructive discussions were held with ITUC General Secretary Guy Ryder on the ITUC’s strategy for the Arab region, within the framework of preparatory discussions ahead of the ITUC Congress in Vancouver (Canada) in June.
World’s Unions Urge G20 to Focus on Jobs for Economic Recovery
As forecasts warn of a continuing rise in unemployment on top of the additional 34 million people worldwide who have become unemployed due to the economic crisis, trade union leaders from the G20 countries will urge for more action on jobs when they meet with G20 Labour and Employment Ministers on 19 April in Washington DC.

In three weeks time, on the annual International Commemoration Day on 28th April, workers and trade unions around the world will commemorate those who have lost their lives, were injured or fell ill due to unsafe, unhealthy or unsustainable work. This year, the focus of activities is on the role trade unions play in making work safer.
Fruit multinational violate workers fundamental rights
The ITUC supports its Guatemalan affiliates the CUSG, CGTG y UNSITRAGUA in roundly condemning the serious and persistent violations of trade union rights committed by national and multinational fruit companies.
Serious Workers’ Rights Problems in Armenia
A new report by the ITUC on core labour standards in Armenia, published to coincide with the World Trade Organisation’s (WTO) review of its trade policies, has found that further measures are needed to comply with the commitments Armenia accepted when it joined the WTO, including commitments undertaken at Doha in the WTO Ministerial Declaration in 2001, as well as in the ILO Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work in 1998 and its Social Justice Declaration in 2008.
