The ITUC is gravely concerned at the tragic suicides at Foxconn Technology Group in Shenzhen, China. The Taiwanese Foxconn group is at the heart of the “Made in China” export model. The group employs a total of nearly 800,000 workers in China, and the Shenzhen facilities alone employ nearly 420,000 employees.
Spying Scandal Shows Need for Colombia-EU Agreement to Be Suspended
In the light of growing concerns that the Colombian intelligence agency DAS has been engaged in clandestine operations both within Colombia and even in the European Union, European and international trade union organisations have called once more for the EU-Colombia-Peru free trade agreement not to be signed on Wednesday 19 May. The agreement is slotted for formal approval at the close of the EU-Latin America-Caribbean Summit currently taking place in Madrid.

New “Roadmap” to Boost Action on Child Labour
The ITUC has welcomed the adoption of a new child labour “Roadmap” at an international conference in the Dutch capital The Hague this week, which will give a new push to reach a target set by the International Labour Organisation to eliminate the worst forms of child labour by 2016.
Swaziland: Trade Unionist Dies in Custody
The ITUC joins the ITUC-Africa and its affiliates in its strongest denunciation of the suspicious death in custody of Sipho Jele, member of the Swaziland Agriculture and Plantation Workers’ Union (SAPWU) and the People’s United Demoractic Movement (PUDEMO), Swaziland’s largest opposition party, which was banned and is being relentlessly persecuted under the government’s notorious Suppression of Terrorism Act. Swaziland has been living under a State of Emergency since 1973.
