“The 2008 ILO Declaration on Social Justice for a Fair Globalisation makes clear that the promotion of Decent Work is key to creating greater employment and income opportunities for all,” said ITUC General Secretary Sharan Burrow. “It is in this spirit that we celebrate the World Day for Social Justice.”
The day was established by the UN General Assembly with the aim of linking together collective efforts to eradicate poverty, promote full employment and decent work, achieve gender equity, and ensure access to social well-being and justice for all. This year, the World Day of Social Justice is an occasion to remember the importance of access to basic social protection and essential services (including health care, education and adequate nutrition). The establishment of a global social protection floor, an initiative strongly supported by the international trade union movement, will help achieve the goal of more equal and just societies.
