The Kingdom of Bahrain, Saudi Arabia’s neighbour, is in the throes of an unprecedented popular revolt, begun by the country’s youth on 14 February. Following violent repression by the authorities which left seven people dead the opposition has called for the resignation of the government and the establishment of a genuinely democratic parliamentary monarchy.
