Trade Union Principles and Guidelines on Development Effectiveness

Trade Union Principles and Guidelines on Development Effectiveness is the first of the TUDCN Development Paper series. It presents the vision and values of trade union organisations on Development Effectiveness in a form of Principles and Guidelines, elaborated on a consultative basis by trade union organisation from both the Global North and the Global South.

The Principles and Guidelines are designed to serve as a common reference for development cooperation initiatives, strengthening working methodologies and ultimately contributing to enhancing the impact of trade union cooperation programmes. The Operational Guidelines identify possible actions, tools and mechanisms to translate the Principles into practice. They will also pave the way for more effective monitoring and evaluation practices.

Finally, the Principles and Guidelines can also serve as a tool to raise awareness among external players about the identity, dynamics and role of trade unions as actors in development.

This paper also provides introductory sections on the overall debate on Aid/Development effectiveness and trade union institutional background, including an evaluation section at the end of the document highlighting the main conclusions of this important process.
