19 January 2011: But ... what do they have in common?

GEFONT is the General Federation of Nepalese Trade Unions. It recently organised a ceremony to launch its new climate change campaign.

Noriyuki Suzuki, the General Secretary of ITUC Asia Pacific handed over the ITUC flag to Dorje Khatri, a central member of GEFONT affiliate UNITRAV, to carry it to the highest peak of the world. This is the seventh time that Dorje Khatri is climbing Mount Everest. He aims to reach it on May 22 ,2011. We wish him the best of luck!

The event is part of a worldwide campaign to save the Himalayas and part of GEFONT’s campaign `Save the Climate – Save the Himalayas`.

The General Secretary said that the aim of taking the flag to the Everest was to show how high the goals of Trade Unions are.
