Tarek Mustafa, Treasurer of RETA, the first independent union in Egypt

6 April 2011: The treasurer of Real Estate Tax Authority Union (RETA), Tarek Mustapha highlights the role of the workers involved in thousands of strikes to get rid of Mubarak’s dictatorship regime. "Under Mubarak’s tyranny, it was forbidden to establish any political party or independent union. RETA faced strong opposition and repression when it was created in 2009. Now, workers want free independent unionism to defend their rights."
