Brussels, 8 May 2008: Speaking today in Amsterdam at a conference of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), ITUC General Secretary Guy Ryder drew attention to a new 50-page publication entitled A Trade Union Guide to the GRI Sustainability Reporting Guidelines.

The purpose of the Guide is to provide trade unionists with a straightforward guide to the “Social Responsibility” or “Sustainability” reports that are increasingly being produced by many major companies.

The Trade Union Guide begins with an introduction to non-financial reporting. Its centrepiece is an examination of the latest Sustainability Reporting Guidelines of the GRI, known as the G3 Guidelines. Each of the aspects of company reports produced according to the G3 Guidelines is considered, and practical suggestions are provided for improving the reports. The Trade Union Guide focuses on the “Management Approach” disclosures and “Performance Indicators” in the labour and human rights area of the G3 Guidelines.
