Trade Unions Call for Action on Biodiversity
Maintaining biodiversity is a central issue for working people and their communities around the planet, including through the creation of decent jobs, protection of livelihoods and ensuring resilience to climate change, according to the ITUC in its submission to biodiversity talks currently underway in Nagoya, Japan.
Decent Work Central to Joint EU - Africa Strategy. An Objective to Be Reconfirmed
A large group of trade union leaders from Africa and the European Union met in Yaoundé (Cameroun) on 4 and 5 October to remind the heads of state from these two regions that decent work must be placed at the heart of the Joint European Union - Africa Strategy. This second trade union summit was convened at the initiative of the ITUC, ITUC-Africa and the ETUC. The final statement will be transmitted to the two regions’ heads of state and government, which are set to meet in Libya at the end of November.

The financial sector and its boosters are deflecting blame for global financial and economic crises and making public sector workers the primary scapegoats, in countries worldwide. However, trade unions, political and civil society leaders are uniting to counter the financial lobby and rapidly advance sustainable economic solutions that build peaceful, equitable societies. The ITUC is participating in the QPS Conference in Geneva.
