Trade Unions at the 2nd High-Level Meeting (HLM2) of the GPEDC

The Trade Union Development Cooperation Network (TUDCN) was represented by a delegation at the Second High-Level Meeting (HLM2) of the Global Partnership for Effective Development Cooperation (GPEDC). This meeting was held from the 28th of November to the 1st of December 2016 in Nairobi, Kenya.

The TUDCN announced the launch of a Global Partnership Initiative on Social Dialogue in Developemt at the HLM2 and invited interested parties to join.

High Level Meeting (ministerial):

The Nairobi Civil Society Forum 2016 is a one day event that brought together Civil Society Organisations attending HLM2. It was organised by the CSO Partnership for Effective Development Cooperation. The full programme is available here

  • On Tuesday 29 November, the ITUC organised a workshop entitled Making the Private Sector Accountable. A CSO assessment of the main private sector instruments for development cooperation was presented and discussed, with a particular emphasis on innovative public finance mechanisms that can help mitigate risk for private investor (PPPs, blending). Specific CSO recommendations were made in order to guarantee the private sector’s compliance with the Busan commitments, especially with respect to transparency and accountability. Joan Lanfranco (ITUC) facilitated the session and Alex Nkosi (ITUC-Africa) was a member of the panel along with Amy Dodd (UK Aid Network), Julie Seghers (Oxfam France), Jennifer del Rosario-Malonzo (IBON International).

  • CSO Forum Workshop - Accountability in South-South Cooperation: What is the Country Level State of Play? This event was jointly organised by Reality of Aid Network and Oxfam South Africa. Thiago Maeda (Central Única dos Trabalhadores - CUT Brazil) was a member of the panel.

  • Breakout Session: Delivering CSO Evidence: Global Launch of 2016 CPDE Reports
    This event was organised by the CSO Partnership for Development Effectiveness, Asia Pacific Research Network and IBON International. Diego López González (ITUC) was a penellist.
