Position Paper to the HLPF 2023: Making the 2030 Agenda a Reality through a New Social Contract

Workers and Trade Unions Major Group Sectoral Position Paper to the HLPF 2023

The UN High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) will take place from Monday 10 July to Wednesday 19 July in New York time.

Over these next two weeks, an ITUC delegation will join hundreds of representatives from governments, civil society organisations, the private sector and other stakeholders at the HLPF to discuss global sustainable development strategies and policies.

Through its work, the delegation will bring forward workers’ position on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that are under review this year, as well as on how to accelerate action towards the 2030 Agenda in general.

This publication reflects the position developped by the ITUC on behalf of the Workers’ and Trade Union Major Group on the five Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to be reviewed at the 2023 High-Level Political Forum (SDG 6, SDG 7, SDG 9, SDG 11 and SDG 17) and proposes a set of recommendations to achieve these Goals through the implementation of a gender transformative New Social Contract that builds on Goal 8 on decent work and sustainable growth to ensure that people and planet are at the centre of all sustainable development policies.
