Opinion of the EESC in favour of an ILO standard on Gender Based Violence - EESC

By: EESC

The Economic and Social Committee of the European Union (EESC) has adopted an Opinion calling for an ILO standard to address gender-based violence. In the Opinion, the Committee, which consists of trade unions, civil society organisations and employers organisations, describes gender-based violence as a serious violation of human rights and an attack on dignity and physical and psychological integrity.

It calls on the Member States of the European Union “to speak with one voice” at the October 2015 meeting of the ILO Governing Body, in support of an international labour standard outlawing gender-based violence in the world of work.
