Kamal Abouaita, president of RETA, the first independent union in Egypt

6 April 2011: At the frontline of the revolution, Kamal Abouaita is the president of Real Estate Tax Authority Union (RETA), the first independent union created despite many obstacles under Mubarak’s regime. "The establishment of the new independent union Federation is a crucial push for democracy and social justice. Fair minimum wages for all workers is a priority. We welcomed the moral support provided from the beginning by the international union movement and ask now for support in terms of capacity building."
