ITUC Calls on UN Human Rights Council to Adopt Principles on Business

The UN Human Rights Council should adopt “Guiding Principles” on business and human rights, as set out in a report from UN Special Representative John Ruggie, at its meeting beginning on Monday in Geneva.

A letter from ITUC General Secretary Burrow said that “the Guiding Principles are the next important step at the international level for business and human rights”.

On Monday Professor Ruggie will make his final report, containing the Guiding Principles, to the United Nations Human Rights Council.

“The UN Framework and these Guiding principles are a far better approach than the usual CSR activities. We want the United Nations Human Rights Council to endorse these principles. This will help to command the attention of business and to take the international consensus over the responsibilities of business to a new level,” said Burrow
