"FRACKING, water, air, land… death" - subtitled in English

“FRACKING, water, air, land… death”, a film by Matías Estévez, co-produced, among others, by SOTERMUN, with the support of the cooperation agency of the Principality of Asturias, has just been subtitled in English, thanks to the Argentinian co-producers, trade unions ATE and CTA.

This documentary film covers the ins and outs of the hydraulic fracturing or ’fracking’ technique and the protests of the Mapuche community in Neuquén, Argentina, which believes it affects the quality of the water from the Neuquén river basin, endangering the natural environment and their means of subsistence.

The shale gas and oil reserves in Vaca Muerta were discovered by Repsol-YPF. The Argentinian government went on to nationalise Repsol’s share and to negotiate the exploitation of the deposits with other investors from the United States.

The documentary has been broadcast on TV in Argentina and at various festivals in Spain, such as the City of Soria International Short Film Festival. It has also been widely viewed on Internet and has been seen by over 18,000 viewers on YouTube alone.

SOTERMUN has published the documentary on DVD, which is available for anyone who wishes to see it.
