4th High Level Forum on Aid Effectiveness & the Busan Civil Society Forum

 

Only one week is left to the 4th High Level Forum on Aid Effectiveness (HLF4). Over 2000 representatives of donor and partner governments, as well as delegates from international institutions, civil society organisations and media from all around the world will meet in Busan, South Korea to discuss how to make aid and development more effective.

 

Just before the HLF4, civil society organisations united in the BetterAid platform will host the Busan Civil Society Forum (BCSF) to prepare together for an effective participation at the High Level Forum.

 

On top of a delegation of almost 40 trade union representatives from 25 different countries, ITUC contributes to both events with the trade union perspective captured in the key documents (see below) and by hosting some of the sessions (see below).

Trade unions in Busan

With almost 40 delegates, the presence of trade unions at the HLF4 in Busan is by itself a statement of interest and commitment to the international processes on development effectiveness. What does the ITUC expect from both events and what contributions do trade unions make to the both the programmes and the political processes around HLF4 and BCSF?

BetterAid – a week to Busan

With only a week left to the HLF4, work in BetterAid is gathering speed. CSOs united in the platform issue new statements on private sector, climate finance, aid for trade and aid architecture, which will soon be followed by the reaction to the 4th Draft Outcome Document. A new blog has also been launched, offering the space to CSO to present their views on the issues of development effectiveness.

The role of private sector actors in development has been one of the most important and discussed topics in the run up to Busan. In response to the debates, ITUC has published the trade union statement on the issue: Private sector in development - trade union statement for HLF4.

The first of TUDCN Development Papers presents the vision and values of trade union organisations on Development Effectiveness in a form of Principles and Guidelines, elaborated on a consultative basis by trade union organisation from both the Global North and the Global South.

TU agenda in Busan

Development for a Decent World - trade union preparatory meeting for the HLF4

Workshop at the Busan Civil Society Forum

The meeting will focus on the preparation of the trade union delegation to the HLF4 through a detailed briefing, identifying key advocacy issues and strategizing for an effective participation in the HLF4 sessions.

 

Start at 2pm on 26th November 2011 in room 180 of the Grand Hotel Haeundae, Busan. Registration to the BCSF is required.

Social Dialogue in East Africa – for Decent Work and democratic ownership

Debate in the Knowledge and Innovation Space of the 4th High Level Forum on Aid Effectiveness

Building upon best practice of the programme in East Africa, the debate will explore the role of Social Dialogue in addressing challenges of economic and social development as well as effective means of supporting this model of democratic ownership in partner countries.
