Trade Union meeting ahead of the 3rd meeting of the High Level Panel on Post 2015 Development, 28-30 January, Monrovia, Liberia
Civil Society Organizations met from 28-30 January in Monrovia, Liberia ahead of the 3rd meeting of the High Level Panel on Post-2015 Development (HLP). The ITUC was part of a small trade union delegation, which included representatives from the East African Trade Union Confederation (EATUC), the Zambia Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) and Education International (EI).

The event itself was comprised of trade ministers, senior civil servants, academics, think tanks and a few members of civil society and was for the most part an echo chamber to discuss the success of aid for trade.

TUDCN General Meeting Paris 14-15 November 2012 - Report
Over 40 representatives of trade unions and solidarity support organisations gathered on the 14th and 15th of November 2012 in Paris to discuss the future of the Trade Union Development Cooperation Network, which is entering its third phase with new funding from the European Commission foreseen to start next year which will enable the network not only to continue, but expand the scope of its work. The participants reflected on the results of the network’s activities over the last years and discussed the plans for engagement and possible structural adjustments.

CUT creates Institute of Cooperation
CUT officially launched the Institute of Cooperation on December. The Institute’s objectives, based on resolutions from the last CUT National Congress and guidelines from CUT’s Strategic Planning unit and Department of International Relations, include the promotion and coordination of projects in partnership with trade union bodies from other countries, in particular from Latin America, the Caribbean and Africa.

CGTM-Mauritania is developing its strategic plan
During its last meeting held on Wednesday 9 January 2013, the Executive Committee of the General Confederation of Mauritanian Workers (CGTM) appointed three of its members, namely, BA Aly Moctar Head of the “Education and training” department; NIANG Mamoudou, Head of “External Relations, Cooperation and Migration” and Mohamed Lehbib CHERIF Head of the “Social Affairs” department to draft a strategic planning document which will be the subject of in-depth discussions during a validation workshop on the 17, 18 and 19 of January bringing together members from the CGTM national office from Nouakchott and the neighbouring regions.

The Migrant Services Center, a Solidarity Center partner, is assisting migrant workers and their families in Sri Lanka while championing structural change through the legislative and governmental processes.

All you want to know about the post-2015 development agenda
In 2015 Millennium Development Goals will expire. UN has launched a process of elaborating the post-2015 development framework that will replace the MDGs. The new framework is likely to be a new set of development goals, but their focus, scope and accountability mechanisms are still to be defined. UN, as well as some of the governments and CSO platforms will organise wide range of consultations that will feed in various ways into the official process, leading to the UN MDG Summit in September 2013.
