Dear {{contact.firstname}},
One billion people live in slums today. They have practically no services and are very vulnerable to disasters. Every year, some 4.2 million people die prematurely as a result of air pollution from transport, industry, and inefficient waste treatment. More than 90% of such deaths occur in low- and middle-income countries.
Trade unions are committed to building and supporting all services that our cities need to transition successfully to a net-zero future. Therefore, SDG 11 on inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable cities is a trade union issue that must be driven forward by social dialogue because, as Peggy Hessen Følsvik (LO Norway) says:
“Social dialogue enables workers to participate in just transition plans of their cities that are good for people and the environment.”
