Policies ITUC and ETUC’s letter to Commissioner Piebalgs
Following up on the
September meeting with Andris Piebalgs, the European Commissioner on Development,
ITUC and ETUC have issued a letter to the Commissioner, summarising the key
aspects of the trade unions’ contributions to the European development
policy.

With less than 50
days left to the 4th High Level Forum on Aid Effectiveness in Busan, the
BetterAid reaffirms their position in the response to the 2nd BOD and at the meeting
of the OECD DAC Working Party on Aid Effectiveness in Paris.

More than ten civil
society organisations networks and fifteen donor agencies took part in a
seminar discussing the findings of the OECD report on the means of
collaboration of DAC members with civil society organisations (CSOs) in the

Korea acknowledges the International Framework and calls on others
governments to do the same
Civil society
organizations have received a powerful sign of recognition in their
mobilization towards the 4th High Level Forum on Aid Effectiveness (HLF4) as
the government of South Korea publicly endorsed the Istanbul Principles and
acknowledged the International Framework for CSO Development Effectiveness.

On the World Day
for Decent Work the Trade Union Development Cooperation Network released a
study on the integration of the Decent Work Agenda into the development
policy of the major donor governments.
News from the network TUDCN meeting on the private sector in
development and the CIVICUS World Assembly
Over 20 trade
unionists from Europe, Africa and Latin America came to Montreal to attend
the World Assembly of CIVICUS as well as the parallel Policy and Advocacy
Working Group of TUDCN, where they discussed the issue of private sector’s
role in development.

News from the network Company representatives receive training on employment of people with
disabilities in Tanzania
21 participants
from 6 companies based in Dar-es-Salaam employing people with disabilities
attended a two-day training course in June this year under the Employment
Support Programme for Workers with Disabilities in Tanzania Project launched
by the Disability Aid Abroad (DAA) in 2010.

must address. The CFDT, is at the leading edge on this subject and has set it
as a theme for its trade union cooperation with the poorest countries.
News from the network DFID trade advocacy fund ignores “big society”
DFID has just
launched its new trade advocacy fund to help poor countries better participate
in trade negotiations. The fund is welcome, but it’s missing a vital
component: it doesn’t support those often marginalised by trade
liberalisation – from workers to smallholder farmers – to have their voices
heard during trade talks. |
