The UN Human Rights Council should adopt “Guiding Principles” on business and human rights, as set out in a report from UN Special Representative John Ruggie, at its meeting beginning on Monday in Geneva.
Trade Unions at the Top of the World
A member of Nepal’s Sherpa trade union, Dorje Khatri, yesterday planted the ITUC flag on the summit of Mount Everest, symbolising the trade union commitment to protecting the planet from climate change. Sherpa Dorje and his team placed the flag at 06.30 on 26 May and are now descending from the peak.
Embassy Protest Against Bahrain’s Anti-Union Repression
A protest delivered to the Bahrain Embassy in Brussels today by international, European and Belgian trade union organisations calls on the authorities in the Gulf state to stop their violent campaign against the country’s trade union movement, to reinstate over 1,000 workers sacked and to drop false charges against union leaders, journalists and human rights defenders.
