This week’s G8 Summit of World Leaders must deliver leadership to end the global jobs crisis, according to the world’s trade unions. Over 30 million people who lost their jobs due to the crisis are still unemployed.
Guatemala: violence against campesinos continues
Renewed attacks have been seen against campesinos in Guatemala. The ITUC has joined with its Guatemalan affiliates, the CUSG, CGTG and UNSITRAGUA, in strongly condemning the murder of Oscar Reyes and the serious wounds inflicted on five other campesinos in the communities of Agua Caliente and El Sauce Inup, in Panzos, Alta Verapaz.

Syria: ITUC Supports Call for General Strike on Wednesday 18 May
As the repression against the popular uprising throughout the country continues, Syria’s opposition has called for a general strike on Wednesday 18 May. “Refusing to work is the only weapon the Syrian people have against the bullets, the tanks, the arrests and all the other brutal excesses of the Assad regime. We support this courageous strike for fundamental freedoms and social justice,” said Sharan Burrow, General Secretary of the ITUC.
